Referring to the Congress central leadership, Lovely said that my resignation was accepted within four hours. After the resignation, there was a crowd at my residence, which included 35 former MLAs. Normally when you resign no one comes, but a huge crowd came. When asked whether he would join BJP, Lovely said, I have resigned from the post of state president of Congress, not as a Congress worker, provided they let me stay here.
Lovely alleged a conspiracy over his expulsion. He said, ever since Congress was formed, a decision on resignation has never been taken within four hours. The in-charge of Delhi alleged that I did this under pressure from BJP. Don’t they know that I joined BJP in 2017? If there was pressure, would I have come back to Congress? Lovely was referring to AICC General Secretary Deepak Babaria. In his resignation letter, he had criticized Babaria and accused him of not allowing the state president to make appointments and forcing him to issue suspensions.
In response, Babariya said that I stopped Lovely in many cases because people who should not have been promoted were being promoted. And this was having a demoralizing effect on other party workers. Asked how the Congress could contest the elections alone as the BJP had won all seven seats for two consecutive terms, Lovely said Congress workers were against the alliance. You cannot deny that (former minister) Ajay Maken accused Aam Aadmi Party of corruption, (former state president) Anil Chaudhary also filed an FIR and (former MP) Sandeep Dixit opposed the alliance. However, I did not take part in any allegation.
Lovely said that Congress workers kept following all your orders for five months. Today when he is angry at being denied nomination, you want me to expel him from the party. I am not ready for this. You appoint another state president to do this. On AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh’s statement that Lovely was the key figure in the alliance, the former Congress chief said, ‘When India was formed in April last year, I was not the state president. Even when the second meeting was held a few months later, I was not the state president. Soon after I became president, Sanjay Singh went to jail. So how do they know? Does this mean that Singh used to come out of jail and see what was happening around?
