Phil Salt’s explosive half-century helped Kolkata Knight Riders return to winning ways as the hosts recorded a resounding seven-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens here on Monday.

KKR rode on Varun Chakraborty’s brilliant three-wicket haul to restrict DC to 153 before overhauling a modest target to register their sixth win.

Salt, leaving on the 15th, took charge of the chase. He executed his clinical clean hitting, plundering seven fours and five sixes primarily through cuts, pulls and drives, in his brilliant 33-ball 68. Salt, who scored 18 runs in the sixth over, reached his fourth 50 by hitting Khalil Ahmed. A brilliant six. He put on 79 runs in 6.1 overs with Sunil Narine to put the home team in a commanding position.

Akshar Patel claimed both openers. Narine was caught in the deep, but played Salt. Rinku Singh fell cheaply, but Iyer’s Shreyas and Venkatesh ensured victory.

Arora posed questions to the DC line-up and took two wickets – Prithvi Shaw caught behind and Shai Hope bowled off the peach.

Meanwhile, Starc pulled the dangerous Jake Fraser-McGurk to deep square-leg to Venkatesh Iyer.

The sly Varun and the precise Narine combined well and enjoyed the contribution quite a bit.

Pant (27) was dropped once by Varun, who could not capitalize on his 18-run ‘life’. The southpaw misses another to Shreyas at extra-cover.

Salt was caught smartly by Tristan Stubbs and Impact player Kumar Kushagra, but Narine Foxed Aksar.

Kuldeep Yadav (35 not out) used the break to register his highest score and contribute some valuable runs but it ultimately went in vain.
