Randhir will file nomination from Maharajganj on May 6.
Randhir Singh is a former MLA. He had contested the last Lok Sabha elections from Maharajganj on RJD ticket. This time in the seat sharing of Indi Alliance, this seat has gone to the account of Congress. Congress has made Bihar Pradesh Congress President Akash Singh its candidate. Janardan Sigriwal has become the BJP candidate for the third time. Randhir Singh considers RJD’s conspiracy to give Maharajganj seat to Congress. Randhir Singh has announced his decision to contest elections from Maharajganj after the meeting of his supporters in the name of public blessings. He has also fixed May 6 as the date for filing nomination papers. The people present in the meeting not only condemned RJD’s injustice towards Randhir Singh, but also pledged to avenge his betrayal by making him victorious.
Randhir said- RJD betrayed
According to former MLA Randhir Singh, RJD assured him to continuously prepare for the elections from Maharajganj. Said that he will be made the candidate from Maharajganj. Despite this, RJD gave Maharajganj seat to Congress. This is a betrayal to them. They cannot tolerate betrayal. He will not only repay this by challenging the Indie Alliance candidate in Maharajganj, but will also make strong efforts to establish the foundation of Indie Alliance in Saran division. He has called a meeting again on May 4, in which the final decision on filing nomination papers will be taken on May 6.
Only Rajput candidates won from Maharajganj 13 times.
Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat remained in the control of Congress after independence. Till 1984, only Congress candidates kept winning. In this, Rajput candidates won 13 times. In the first elections held in the year 1957, Mahendra Nath Singh had won on Congress ticket. Even in 1962, this seat went to Congress. This sequence continued till 1971. This fort of Congress was demolished for the first time in 1977. Ramdev Singh of Janata Party had defeated the Congress candidate. Congress made a comeback here again in 1980 and 1984. But, in 1989, former PM Chandrashekhar won from here on Janata Dal ticket. Chandrashekhar had contested elections simultaneously from Ballia and Maharajganj and won both the seats. He resigned from Maharajganj seat and made Ballia his work area. In the by-election held after Chandrashekhar’s resignation, Ram Bahadur Singh of Janata Dal was elected.
In the 1991 general elections, Girija Devi of Janata Dal was elected MP from Maharajganj. After that in 1996, Ram Bahadur Singh of Samajwadi Janata Party (Rashtriya) won. In the years 1998, 1999 and 2004, Prabhunath Singh became MP continuously on JDU ticket. Umashankar Singh won on RJD ticket in 2009. This seat is in the possession of BJP since 2014. Janardan Sigriwal is contesting elections from Maharajganj for the third time on BJP ticket. Mostly Rajput candidates have been winning from this seat. Mahendra Narayan Singh, MP Singh, Ramdev Singh, Krishna Pratap Singh, Chandrashekhar, Girija Devi, Ram Bahadur Singh, Prabhunath Singh and Janardan Sigriwal are among the Rajput candidates who won from Maharajganj.
Which caste dominates in Maharajganj?
Rajputs have the highest population in Maharajganj Lok Sabha constituency. Bhumihars are at second place in this area. Yadavs are at third place, while Brahmins are at fourth place in terms of population. Muslims also have a significant population in this area. Maharajganj parliamentary constituency has been formed by merging Goriyakothi, Taraiya, Baniyapur, Ekma, Manjhi and Maharajganj assembly constituencies. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, there was a tough contest between Janardan Sigriwal of BJP and Randhir Singh of RJD, but victory went to Sigriwal. Sigriwal defeated RJD candidate Randhir Singh by 2,30,772 votes. BJP has been getting maximum support from the upper castes. This time there is a contest between two Rajputs and a Bhumihar candidate. Last time, Prabhunath Singh’s son Randhir had got more than three lakh votes here, while Sigriwal had got more than five lakh votes. The contest is likely to be interesting with the entry of the Bhumihar candidate.
