An upbeat India will be hoping to consolidate its lead in the five-match T20I series against Bangladesh as the two teams meet in the second match of the tour here on Tuesday.
India won the first match by 44 runs with the help of an all-round performance. After electing to bat first, India’s top order built partnerships together to end with 145/7 on the board.
Bangladesh’s batting woes, the Achilles’ heel against Australia, cost the team yet again against its neighbours, with only captain Nigar Sultana Joti managing to put up a fight.
India’s disciplined bowling gives the team a lot of confidence. With Renuka Thakur and Pooja Vastrakar in charge of the new ball in the first match – Bangladesh’s openers were able to root themselves at the crease and earn little chance freely.
While Sajivan Sajna made his debut in the first game, Radha Yadav returned to Udupi after a year. As it is a dress rehearsal for the Indian team ahead of the World Cup here later this year, the Women in Blue may experiment with leg-spinner Asha Sobhana Joy.
Bangladesh’s fielding left much to be desired, with several dropped catches denting the team’s confidence. However, the team improved as the match progressed. Its bowling, though, raised questions about India’s famous batting order, not allowing the tail to give the innings its final flourish.
The hosts’ main concern is batting and the team will need to find a way to better support skipper Nigar if they hope to challenge India.
