What is storytelling?
Dastangoi Kissa is an art of story telling. This hood is believed to have originated from Iran in the eighth-ninth century. A thousand years ago, stories of bravery and heroic deeds of the Arabic hero Amir Hamza began in the form of tales. The stories written in Dastango became most popular when they became a part of the Urdu language.

Dastangoi started establishing its foothold in India for the first time during the Mughal period. This art reached its peak in North India in the 19th century. This art reached new heights during the Mughal period in India. Emperor Akbar’s tenure was very famous for keeping Dastango in his court and popularizing this art.

Dastangoi is the art of telling Dastan i.e. long stories in Urdu. Many tales like Alif Laila, Hatimtai etc. were narrated in Urdu but the most famous among them was Amir Hamza, which narrates the adventures of Hazrat Mohammad’s uncle Amir Hamza.

Mahmood Farooqui started again in 2005
India’s last famous professional dastango was Mir Bakar Ali, who died in Delhi in 1928. After this, the tradition of storytelling completely ended in India. In 2005, Mahmood Farooqui again started Dastangoi after taking inspiration from Urdu critic Shamsur Rahman Farooqui and thus Jadid (modern) Dastangoi started in India. Later many other people also joined it.

The story came in the form of a book
Lucknow gave the biggest blessing to Dastangoi by bringing it into existence in the form of a book. For this reason, even today these stories are safe, at least on paper, all over the world. When the trend of oral storytelling was at its peak, world famous writer Naval Kishore decided to publish it in the form of a book for the first time.
