Amidst the sweltering heat, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a list of DOs that should be followed by people to ensure their well-being

As the country is currently facing the brunt of a hot and sultry weather, there seems to be no respite for the people in the coming days. The MeT Department on Sunday said that severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar and some parts of Jharkhand till May 1.

The heatwave warning has also been issued for Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana till April 30.

Max. Temp in Delhi To Reach 40 Degrees Celsius

The maximum temperature in the national capital might reach 40 degrees celsius on Monday.

Mumbai To Sizzle In Humid Conditions

  • The IMD said that the heatwave will continue as the mercury is likely to be around 38 and 39 degrees celsius in Mumbai till Tuesday.
  • As per the weather office, the city as well as Thane and Raigad will be under a heatwave on Monday, after which a yellow warning will be issued until Tuesday.

Bengaluru Records Second Hottest Day Of The Season

  • Offering no respite from the relentless heat, Bengaluru city recorded a maximum temperature of 38.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday, as per the weather watchers.
  • CP Patil, Director of Meteorological Centre, Indian Meteorology Department (IMD), Bengaluru said that on April 27, Bengaluru City hit 37.4 degree Celsius, about 3.3 degree Celsius departure from normal maximum temperature.
  • This year’s record high is yet to surpass the all-time high of 39.2 degree Celsius recorded on April 25, 2016, Patil said.

Bengal, Odisha & Northeast To Continue Facing the ‘Heat’

  • Heatwave prevailed in south Bengal and many parts of the northern districts of West Bengal on Sunday as the Met department forecast it will continue, particularly in southern districts, till May 2.
  • On Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 44.3 degrees Celsius in Paschim Medinipur district, 43.5 degrees Celsius in Bankura and 41.3 degrees Celsius in Kolkata.
  • The state government already announced the preponing of the summer vacation in state-run and state-aided schools.
  • Odisha continued to reel under severe heatwave conditions with industrial town Angul recording the state’s maximum temperature of 44.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
  • As many as 27 places in the state recorded a maximum temperature of above 40 degrees Celsius, of which 12 places witnessed a temperature of 43 degrees Celsius or above, a bulletin issued by IMD’s Bhubaneswar centre said.
  • The Tripura government has decided to extend the holiday in all schools across the state for three more days till May 1 due to the ongoing heatwave.

Heatwave To Continue in Chennai, Andhra & Telangana

  • Heat wave conditions will prevail over Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Karnataka during the next 5 days, over Telangana till May 1 and over Kerala on April 28.
  • An IMD bulletin said on Saturday that for the next 48 hours, maximum temperatures in the city may go up to 36 to 37 degrees Celsius.
  • In fact, heatwave conditions may continue over north Tamil Nadu with temperatures 3-5°C above normal, till May 1.
  • Two persons–a man in his 50s and an elderly woman succumbed to sunstroke in Kerala as the southern state grapples with severe heat conditions, disrupting daily life. Heat-related fatalities were reported in the north Kerala districts of Kannur and Palakkad, as well.

IMD Issues List Of Preventive Measures

Meanwhile, the weather office has also released a list of suggestions that should be followed amidst the scorching heat. The suggested actions given by the IMD are:

  • Drink enough water to keep oneself hydrated.
  • Avoid working outdoors during 12 pm to 4 pm.
  • Wear light and cotton clothes.
  • Cover head using hat, umbrella or a piece of cloth.
