Phil Salt demolishes Delhi Capitals bowlers in Match No.47 of the Indian Premier League Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders strengthened their playoff bid with a comfortable win over Delhi Capitals on Monday. Salt’s entertaining knock saw KKR clinch a seven-wicket win at the Eden Gardens. Reflecting on KKR’s impressive win at home, mentor Gautam Gambhir gave Salt a special mention after the knight rider broke Sourav Ganguly’s longest record.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, ex KKR the hero Gambhir Kolkata had the right amount of ‘salt’ in their home win, he said. “Winning Kolkata style with just the right amount of ‘salt’,” Gambhir mentioned in his post. Salt scored 68 runs off 33 balls KKR won by seven wickets against Delhi Capitals. The KKR opener managed to break Ganguly’s record of 14 years. Salt scored 344 runs in just six innings at Eden Gardens.

Salt breaks Ganguly’s record

Salt surpassed Ganguly’s run tally with his impressive performance at the famous venue. Former KKR captain Ganguly scored 331 runs in seven innings in IPL 2010. Ganguly scored 493 runs in 14 matches during that time. Andre Russell Ganguly is next with 311 runs in seven innings in IPL 2019. Former KKR star Chris Lynn crossed 300 runs (303 in 9 matches) in IPL 2018.

Salt shined for KKR at Eden

Salt hit five sixes and seven fours in his match winning streak for the Knight Riders. Skipper Iyer remained unbeaten on 33 off 23 balls as KKR chased down the target of 154 in 16.3 overs. KKR opener Salt has moved up to the fifth spot in the Orange Cap rankings after a blistering batting attack at the Eden Gardens.

‘Gotta keep supporting yourself’

“It’s good to donate. We have performed well in home matches. It is nice that we have continuity in the conditions. He was really pleased to see such a performance from the bowlers from the last match. It is sometimes high risk, but it puts the odds in your favor. You have to keep your support and make the right choices,” Salt said after the match.
