With legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar criticizing Hardik Pandya after MS Dhoni's impressive performance against Chennai Super Kings, batting icon Brian Lara focused on Mumbai Indians' errant bowling attack in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. The former West Indies captain feels that premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah needs more support in MI's bowling department.

Apart from Bumrah, there is no one to support MI in the bowling attack, Lara said after the Clasico (ANI-BCCI).

'There is no one better than Jasprit Bumrah'

“Not much, when we look at Mumbai Indians, I think a lot of people have them as favourites, because they were batting well, they scored 230 runs, they chased 196 runs, made it look very easy, 15 overs, so I think on that fact, “We pick them as favourites. But their bowling is poor. There is no one to support them in that bowling attack, and the CSK batsmen took them apart,” Lara said. Star Sports.

Mumbai used 7 bowlers against CSK in Classico

MI fielded seven bowlers in a high-scoring clasico against Chennai Super Kings. Despite skipper Pandya picking up two wickets, the MI skipper was bowled out for 43 runs in his three overs. Pacer Akash Madhwal also bowled three overs and failed to take a single wicket against the five-time winners. Mohammad Nabi opened the MI attack against CSK and the spinner leaked six runs in his first over. Shreyas Gopal took the wicket of Rachin Ravindra in his first over. However, MI refused to use their spinners after the eighth over.

'Spinners didn't trust Shivam Dubey'

“The spinners, they bowled only 4 overs after about 7 runs an over, but Shivam Dubey was unbelievable there. So, MI needs to improve in that area, they need to find a couple of bowlers, match winning bowlers. What tells me more about this game is that when you've got a good bowling unit like CSK, you look at their bowling, every bowler, every bowler played a role in that game. At that point we had dot balls, we thought Mumbai Indians would pick up the pace, they didn't,” Lara added.
