Bengaluru, April 30: Passengers of our Metro Purple Line have now purchased QR printed tickets to travel in the Metro. The newly installed QR ticket machines are now increasingly popular for commuters boarding Bangalore Metro at MG Road and Cubbon Park metro stations.
These machines allow metro passengers to print QR tickets for their boarding and alighting stations after making payment through UPI. The newly installed machine is now in heavy use.
A Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) official said around 4,500 QR tickets have been sold since the pilot scheme started at two stations on the Purple Line of the Bengaluru Metro on April 4. In the initial phase of the project, 14 machines have been installed, six at MG Road Metro Station and eight at Cubbon Park Metro Station.
The QR ticketing system was introduced with the aim of decongesting metro stations during peak hours. Especially during events like Indian Premier League (IPL) most cricket fans visit M Chinnaswamy Stadium to watch Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
The QR ticket facility has helped reduce long queues for ticket counters especially during peak hours. This is just a pilot project. We sold 4,500 tickets in just two to three weeks. A BMRCL official said that on the basis of similar progress, provision of this facility at other stations will be considered.
However, these machines are disabled on weekends and weekday afternoons when metro stations are less crowded.
