Bengaluru, April 15: The South Western University (SDLUR) has finally awarded 115 plots of land for the Bengaluru Suburban Project 46.88-km route connecting Heilali in the south to Rajanukunte in the far north, DHO reported.

115.472 of its south-west land was handed over to the Railway Infrastructure Department Company Limited (K-RIDE) under a long-term lease. However, it reduced the cost of land for Corridor 2 from 157.07 collections to 85.707 outlays. Both the agreements were signed on April 2, said a senior K-Ride official.

Bangalore divisional manager Yogesh Mohan confirmed the development and said the land registration is official. Construction of Special Works for Construction of K-Ride 149 km Bangalore Suburban Project On December, 30, 2023, contract was awarded to L&T to design and construct viaducts for Corridor 4 (Kanaka Line).

Now both the obstacles have been removed and the foundation has begun. SDLR approved a revised alignment plan for Corridor 4 in January. Another senior official said that K-Ride is also working to shift utilities, shift physical locations and acquire Corridor 4 private land.

Corridor 4 has 19 stations. It will be completed by December 2026, the deadline cannot be pushed further due to slow pace of work. Meanwhile, the revised alignment of K-Ride Corridor 1 (KSR Bangalore-Devanahalli/Airport, 41.4 km) has been showcased in Southwest Bangalore.

Bangalore DRM Mohan said that more details have been requested regarding the alignment of Corridor 1. Submitted by K-Ride. Alignment is under approval stage, we are checking it,” he said. In February, Infrastructure Development Minister Patil had set a December 2027 deadline for Corridor 1. It is divided into two phases for better implementation.

In the first phase the Yalahanka-Devanahalli section will be completed by December 2026. But the completion date of KSR Bangalore-Yalahanka section is by December 2027. K-Ride faces technical challenges in executing a project of this magnitude. A major stumbling block is the poor coordination between K-Ride and the Railways.

A case in point is Corridor 1 which connects major areas of the city. K-Ride doesn't think it's that important. Technical challenges need to be worked out. Mohan said that the department is ready to take up this project.
