Ahmedabad Cyber Crime department on Tuesday arrested Satish Vansola and RV Varia. Vansola is the personal assistant of Congress leader Jignesh Mevani.

At least two people associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress have been arrested in connection with the fake video of Union home minister Amit Shah.

Ahmedabad Cyber Crime department on Tuesday arrested Satish Vansola and RV Varia. Vansola is the personal assistant of Congress leader Jignesh Mevani.

According to BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya, a video of Amit Shah was altered to misrepresent his remarks on the issue of reservation quotas for Muslims in Telangana.

Reacting to the development, Mevani said that he can never be a supporter of fake videos or fake propaganda.

“I condemn all such actions, but no one should be selectively targeted during elections. Satish (Vansola) is like my brother and I am proud to have a friend like him. But he is never a person who deliberately does anything with bad intentions. I have known him closely for six years,” the Gujarat Congress leader added.

Malviya on Saturday said, “Congress is spreading an edited video which is completely fake and has the potential to cause large-scale violence. Home Minister Amit Shah spoke about removing the unconstitutional reservation given to Muslims, on the basis of religion, after reducing the share of SCs/STs and OBCs. This fake video has been posted by several Congress spokespersons. They must be prepared for legal consequences.”

The Union home minister also hit out at the Congress on Tuesday, saying that the Opposition should fight elections on manifesto, and not fake video. Shah added that politics has stooped to a new low under Rahul Gandhi.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai police registered a case against the Maharashtra Youth Congress’ social media handle and 16 others for allegedly sharing the deepfake video of Shah.

A complaint in this connection was filed by Mumbai BJP functionary Pratik Karpe at the Bandra Kurla Complex cyber police station on Monday, an official said

On Monday, the Delhi police had summoned Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy on May 1 for questioning in the case.

Sources said notices issued to five members of the Telangana Congress, including its chief Reddy, who posted the video on X, were handed over by teams of Delhi Police’s Special Cell to the CM’s office and at the party office at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Monday.

They have been asked to appear with their mobile phones, laptops, tablets or any other electronic device through which they have created, uploaded and tweeted the video on their X accounts, the sources said.

The Congress warned of similar action against BJP leaders in Congress-ruled states, while the BJP lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against the Congress, alleging that it circulated the deep fake and morphed video of Shah to derail the poll process, and demanded strict action against the party.
