New Delhi: Maths are religious institutions, many of which were established centuries ago. In Karnataka, there are thousands of large and small mathas followed by various castes and communities like Lingayats, Okkaligas, Kurubas, Valmikis, Nayaks and Madigas. Of these, Lingayats have more than a thousand Maths in Karnataka alone.

Nath Samparadya Kadari Math is located in Mangalore, Dakshina Kannada. Devotees from all over India visit this place to seek the blessings of Pithdeeswara. Additionally, the monastery houses Kala Bhairava, Shiva and many living tombs.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shares a special bond with Mangalore. Adityanath is the president of Akhil Bharat Yogi Mahasabha and has visited Mangalore many times. Kadali Yogeshwar (Jogi) participated in the Mahamastakabhisheka program of the new ‘Raja’ of Math and spoke. A ceremony known as the coronation of an alternate king takes place once in 12 years.

Mangaluru resident Suraj Kamat, manager of Kadri Math, said, “Earlier, Kadri Yogeshwar Math was known as Kadli. Parasurama did penance. It is a pious area, there is a temple of Kala Bhairav. It is a math of Nath sect.”

“There are 12 sects of the sect. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is the president of the Kadri Mutt. People of all creeds come to the Mutt and seek blessings,” Kamath said.

“The Math was established when Macchedranath ji and Gorakshnath ji came to South India to preach. From then till now, Peethadheeshwar is becoming a king every 12 years, the king changes every 12 years, when Yogi ji comes to Bangalore towards Udupi. When CM Yogi Adityanath comes, he doesn’t stay in a hotel, he stays here in the Math. Kamath said.

“People from all communities of Megaluru are connected here. All people come here for Guruji’s darshan. Jogi Samaj from Karnataka comes here for Kalabhairav’s darshan. Their entire community does puja and service here. In Jogi Mutt, people from all communities come to Nath Panth Mutt to seek blessings of Raja Ji i.e. Guru Ji.

Shan is a devotee of the Guru of Kadri Mutt. He used to come to the Math from his childhood.

I have been coming to serve the Math for about 15 years. I am from Karnataka and live in Mangalore. Kadri Mutt is a very ancient place. I have come to serve Guruji. I have come to see Guru. Nath panth is from ancient times and we come here to seek blessings of Guru.

Ayodhanath Ji Maharaja said, “I am here for few months, I was in Rajasthan, this is Siddha Bhoomi, this is Tapobhoomi, those who come here are very good, they get peace here and feel very good.”

Bharat Singh Solanki, a follower of the Kadri Mutt, hails from Jalore district of Rajasthan and has been serving the Mutt for 16 years.

He said that especially on Gurupurnima, which is Guruji’s birthday, people from all over the country come here for darshan.
