Bengaluru, April 17: Five construction firms have been awarded contracts worth Rs 1,600 crore for white topping a total of 134 roads in Bengaluru city, DHO reported.
The Big Bangalore Metropolitan Corporation (BBMP), which has completed the tender process, plans to take up the work after the Lok Sabha elections. However, some roads are not abandoned. It is mostly in good condition and does not stand still temporarily.
Not all roads are white-topped at once. M. Lokesh, head of BBMP project department said that the work will be taken up only after getting permission from the traffic police.
Bolbat Yojana is responsible for white topping of 67 km of roads at an estimated cost of Rs 702 crore, while the road infrastructure department of the civic body will white topping around 71 km of roads. 850 crores approximately. A part of the project cost is borne by the state government. The treasury will match the revenue from property tax and provide the rest.

One kilometer of road, including several routes of redevelopment of footpaths, will cost around Rs 11.59 crore for Whitetop. In December 2023, the budget began work on preparing a detailed plan (DPR) and tenders for white-topping work were called in February. In anticipation of the promulgation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), BBMP issued work orders to all organizations in March.
The five companies awarded the tender by the BBMP are: RNS In Structure Limited, Oceans Construction India Limited, NS Naik & Sons, JMC Constructions Limited and Appaji Builders. Two properties, all other companies have more than two packages. BBMP has a total of Rs 1,600 crore covering around 25 assembly constituencies divided into 14 packages.
